Option 1: For my reading notes this week, I decided to focus on my images describing side, back and front lighting. I found the most trouble to be with the back lighting. It was really hard not to get a lot of shadows on the person’s face. It took me a little while to understand the whole metering thing but I finally grasped the concept with a little practice. I am still not a pro at it but at least I am getting better at it. For my side lighting pictures, I stood at a 45-degree angle so that half of the person’s face was shadowed and I metered off the face too. For a front lighting shot, I metered off the face and before shooting the picture right in front of the person with the lighting on my back. For backlighting, I first metered off the person’s face before taking a picture with the light facing me with it on the person’s back that I am shooting. I like the way that back lighting looks when you get it right so I just need some more experience with it to completely master it.
